Theory of Tonal Music IV
Overview
- Principles of musical form: concepts and terms.
- The role of melody, rhythm, harmony, texture and phrase in the formal process.
- Review of binary, ternary and compound ternary forms.
- Analysis of Classical and Romantic forms: sonata, rondo, sonata-rondo.
Concepts and techniques are presented and discussed in the lectures; assignments are undertaken by the students.

The student will learn harmonic, melodic, rhythmic, and structural materials of tonal music. The student will be expected to:
- provide an analysis of representative musical excerpts or entire compositions;
- provide written answers to questions on any aspect of the course content.
