Overview
- Practice classification of diseases and interventions from a variety of complex health records in a health care facility, using ICD-10-CA/CCI classification systems.
- Practice completion of an abbreviated manual version of the discharge abstract.
- Participate in tours, demonstrations, and other relevant activities.
- Continuous feedback provided by a faculty member or designate to the participant during the process of coding and abstracting
- Discussion of performance
- Group discussion
- Guest lecturers/tours/demonstrations
Typical evaluations would include:
- Self Assessment
- Reflective Learning Journals
- Test Cases
- Productivity
Course evaluation is based on course objectives and is consistent with ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ Curriculum and Development Approval policy.
A detailed evaluation schedule is presented to the students at the beginning of the course. Outline of evaluation may be subject to change.
This is a graded course.
In this course students attend a local tertiary health care facility to practice skills in data classification and abstraction. The participant will have opportunity to:
- at an entry-level proficiency, be able to classify diagnosis and interventions from a variety of current health records
- maintain and enhance appreciation for the importance of data integrity
Textbooks and Materials to be Purchased by Students:
No specified texts are required. Students to use relevant reference texts and materials from all semesters.
Require use of laptop loaded with coding software.
