The course evaluation is consistent with the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ Evaluation Policy. 70% of the total mark will be allotted by the instructor on the basis of weekly progress in the various aspects of the course, and on performance level exhibited over the course of the semester.  The instructor and student will discuss the student’s progress and performance level at regular intervals (minimum three times) during the semester, so that the student is aware of their current standing and what is expected.

30% of the total mark will be based on a juried examination, adjudicated by two members of the music faculty (performance students: performance on instrument of study; composition students: portfolio review).

The following is a sample grade breakdown:

15%  Progress Evaluation #1 – Weeks 1-4 – technique, musicianship, performance level

15%  Progress Evaluation #2 – Weeks 5-7 – technique, musicianship, performance level

15%  Progress Evaluation #3 – Weeks 6-10 – technique, musicianship, performance level

25%  Attitude and effort

30%  Jury Exam

100%  Total

Up to 10% of the total mark will be deducted for unfulfilled participation. The following explains the grading calculation:

Performance students are expected to perform in recital (on the student’s instrument of study). 5% is deducted if this requirement is not met.

Composition students are expected to have a piece of theirs performed in a recital or studio pod class. 5% is deducted if this requirement is not met.

1% is deducted for each absence from required department performances.

1% is deducted for each hour of absence from studio pod classes.

Piano concentrators are expected to accompany. 1% is deducted if this requirement is not met.

1% is added for each additional performance and/or accompaniment above the minimum. This addition will only offset marks that have been deducted.
