New 榴莲视频 educational pathway supports access to in-demand child education careers with $116K government grant

The 榴莲视频 English Upgrading department has launched a new educational pathway that supports access for students looking to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Child and Youth Care (CYC).

Starting in September, this supportive program offers a high-quality, low-barrier option for prospective students who need to improve their English proficiency before pursuing the necessary ECE or CYC credentials.

鈥淭his pathway helps students meet English proficiency requirements, but it also provides an accessible entrance into higher education at large,鈥 said Chris-Anne Stumpf, English Upgrading Instructor and Program Coordinator at 榴莲视频. 鈥淥ur class sizes are small, allowing students valuable one-on-one time with instructors in a confidence-building learning environment.鈥

Child education roles are one of the most in-demand professions in the province, with WorkBC projecting over 12,000 openings for early childhood educators and assistants in the next ten years.

To help meet the high demand for future child educators in B.C., the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills granted over $116,000 to 榴莲视频鈥檚 English Upgrading program to make the ECE and CYC pathway as accessible to prospective students as possible.

鈥淭his new program is increasing opportunities for people who have historically experienced barriers to accessing post-secondary education and training,鈥 said Honourable Lisa Beare, Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. 鈥溋窳悠礽s creating an important stepping stone so more students can pursue a meaningful career in ECE and CYC to help support B.C.鈥檚 labour market needs.鈥

With a focus on flexibility and skill development, the pathway allows students to prepare for success in post-secondary education alongside a like-minded cohort of students who will also pursue ECE and CYC programs at Douglas.

The pathway, which is tuition-free for domestic applicants, has also waived its placement test for students interested in ECE and CYC careers.

Applications are still open for the program and interested applicants can College application fees are covered for those applying for Fall 2024 or Winter/Summer 2025.
