Course Description
This course introduces the theory and practice of management in therapeutic recreation and recreation health promotion services. It prepares students to become effective practicing therapeutic recreation or recreation health promotion managers in community-based, clinical or facility settings. Selective functions in administrative, operational, human resource, quality, and consumer management will be addressed.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- analyze the dimensions, responsibilities and challenges of management

- compare and contrast theories of management

- develop and apply operational management tasks such as budgets, computer and information systems, problem solving and marketing associated with therapeutic recreation and recreation health promotion
- apply effective human resource management plans and skills, including staff and volunteers, related to therapeutic recreation and recreation health promotion settings
- apply a client centred approach when developing service management, risk management and quality service management plans that serve the consumer in therapeutic recreation and recreation health promotion settings
Means of Assessment
This course will conform to ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ policy regarding the number and weighting of evaluations.
An evaluation schedule is presented at the beginning of the course. Typical means of evaluation will include a combination of written assignments, presentations and testing.
